How to succeed as a manager?

1-How to be a successful CEO?

The higher we go up the hierarchical pyramid of a company, the rarer the places are. At this level, qualified candidates, with the required management skills, are not lacking. To distinguish yourself, you will have to rely on other elements:

The leader must be able to rethink classic business communication to a more dynamic “conversational” model, based on dialogue. This is an essential prerequisite for maintaining operational flexibility and high-team engagement, even if the business is a large structure.

A good CEO must finally have the courage of candor. Where it is easy to bring good news, one may tend to be more reluctant to convey bad news. That said, using “letdown” messages without deflection is essential to gain the respect of your teams.

2-What is the profile of a leader?

Traditionally, a CEO has followed an academic training of excellence, has a wide and varied experience in the business world, crowned with some great successes. Most of the time, leaders are of mature age, they have acquired knowledge, judgment and wisdom over the years.

We have an increase in the internal promotion of leaders in organizations, revealing the importance of having extensive experience in a specific sector. CEOs have less and less of the authoritarian profile they once had, in favor of involved, feisty, foolproof profiles.

Although some organizations continue to recruit traditional CEO profiles, an evolution is still slowly in motion and the variety of profiles is beginning to expand. The more atypical profiles still have their chances, but they must be able to defend their file with relevance and originality to succeed in breaking out of the pack.

Finally, diversity within boards of directors, such as the presence of women, is certainly a reality that takes time, but already brings undeniable added value to companies that dare to take the plunge.
