How to answer the question about your Salary Expectations
Many candidates stop this question on their salary expectations. If you advertise too low a salary, you won’t get everything you want, but if you aim for too high a salary, you may miss out.
The good news is that there are strategies for quoting a figure that seems justified to you as long as it remains in the business budget. To be successful in talking money with a prospective employer, it’s all about time, tact and research.
1. Learn about the market and salary trends
Whatever type or level of position you are seeking, maintenance hiring is the perfect time to convince a hiring manager that you deserve a generous salary. At the end of the interview, the potential employer should say, “That’s the person I want to recruit. Now, how do you convince him or her to join our team? ”
Your salary claims may be mentioned during the first official maintenance, or even when prescreening by phone. You should therefore prepare your answer to this question as soon as you apply. And this involves a little research work beforehand.
2. Quote a range, not a number
Candidates should not ask questions about salary when applying or during the phone screening. If you discuss money issues too early, you will give the impression that you are more interested in the pay than the position. However, this does not mean that the employer will not ask you about your salary claims from the first contact.
If the job posting specifies that candidates should include their salary claims in their application, provide a fork, not a specific figure, which seems satisfactory. Responses such as “negotiate” may work, but they are also likely to elude you. Do your research and you will know what salary range is most appropriate.
If the pay issue rises from the first phone contact, you can also quote a range for example “from what I know about the job, I’m thinking in the range between XX and XX Euros. ”
3. Return the question
At the beginning of the recruitment process, giving a salary range is not evasive, as mentioned above. At this point, however, you have the opportunity to return the question. You ask about your salary expectations during pre-screening over the phone or at the beginning of your first video interview with the employer, smile and say:
– Before we talk about salary, I’d like to know more about the position, about the responsibilities involved and on the team, but can I ask you what salary range you are considering.
– Will I have to supervise employees or manage processes that were not mentioned in the initial job offer?
– What benefits and bonuses will be included in the salary package?
By asking the question politely, you’ll demonstrate that your priority is whether the position really matches what you’re looking for that all employers will respect. And they will have a hard time resisting the desire to honor your intelligent invitation to communicate the budgeted salary bracket.
4. Subsequently, ask for the salary you want
In a moment, you will have to ask for your salary. Keep in mind everything you have learned through your research and during the recruiting process. Here are some examples of how to negotiate your salary.
All of this information should help you determine a salary that you will find satisfactory and will be acceptable to the employer. You may have to show your game the first time we question you about your salary claims, but it does not mean you have committed to the bifurcation you gave. Formulate your response by citing, briefly, the essential points that we believe justify your salary expectations. It is even better if you do this positively. For example :

– “I am really excited about the challenges you have described! XX Euros seems to me to be a good starting salary. There is a lot of responsibility to take on and I am confident that I will be successful in this position. “
– “I think x Euros. It is an important position for which I feel qualified. I led a similar team to my former employer and we reached all the targets we had set. I would love to take on other challenges of this type!”
– “I recall the salary range you quoted above and I understand the fact that you have a budget to respect, but I propose a starting salary of XX Euros. The responsibilities of this position are very demanding, as we have both agreed, and I have the skills and training required. I am convinced that you can achieve the results you expect. “Stay positive and pleasant. Be courteous and confident.
