Finding a job from home

At a time when our economy faces unprecedented upheaval and where physical interviews are no longer possible, job seekers face a size barrier. In addition, some involuntary assets to change jobs at the beginning of the year are suddenly in search of a new job. Regardless of your situation as a job seeker, taking the steps of the hiring process without being in the same room as the potential new employer and without leaving your home poses significant challenges.

Fortunately, technology makes it easier to search for jobs at home and recruit remotely. If it’s rare to find, disengage and start a job without any physical contact, every element of an all-digital job search can lead you to a job.

1 – Find the best opportunities

Anyone who has searched for a new job in the last 20 years knows about online job openings. But don’t stop there. Operate and work your online network. While no one hosts online networking conferences or events, there’s nothing stopping you from networking professionally on LinkedIn or Social networks. Let us look for a new job. You could meet companies looking for talent, or even count your merits with recruiters. Ask for endorsements and recommendations to your LinkedIn colleagues (without forgetting to give them the same).

2 – Get help from specialists

Once they know your skills and career preferences, these companies can not only recommend only directly to recruiters, but also have close links with employers in your area and often hear about vacancies before they are posted…. Getting to the first one can be a huge advantage, especially when you have a recruiting professional to champion your profile.

3 – Be a video star

When an employer expresses interest in your resume and cover letter, a phone interview usually launches the screening process. You’ve probably done several before, but that’s not a reason to consider this step as acquired. Video interviews are now quite common, and may even become the norm for some time. The most important thing is to approach them exactly as if you were in the same room as the recruiter.

And keep in mind that, in an online hiring process, video will likely be your primary tool for all stages of maintenance (possible meeting with several people at once), when picking up the offer, and when negotiating your salary and perks.

4 – Start remotely

Starting a remote job is not yet in our habits. You have dropped the job without any direct contact with your new team members, IT staff and, of course, all those who were not present during your interviews. So, you might feel alone in unfamiliar territory. But you’ve dropped a job what remains most important.

Make sure you have a direct line to the IT department, administrators and anyone else who can help you set up your remote installation or call in case of problems. In the first few weeks, try to establish a video contact whenever possible so people can see your face, your expressions and my imitations. Help them get to know you better and build a personal connection.

Communicate regularly with as many people as possible. In addition to recurring team or project meetings, arrange one-on-one calls (audio and video) with your manager and team members with whom you collaborate closely. And make some of these contacts every week, at least with the employees you work with most frequently.

Messaging platforms such as slack or Skype can be essential in the telework context. Whatever the platform used by the company, leave it open at any time and visible as much as possible to miss any alerts.

5 – Chat actively

Don’t just watch others communicate. Send messages to ask quick questions about a project or company standards, inform people of your progress, and respond frequently to others’ messages to stay visible and involved in conversations. Do the same with emails and any other means of communication employed by the team.
